Valve Selection of water supply pipelines

This essay will briefly introduce some tips for how to select correct valve types for water supply pipelines.

ISelection for valves used on water supply pipelines

1. When the pipe diameter is not more than 50mm, globe valves should be used. When the pipe diameter is larger than 50mm, gate valves and butterfly valves are adopted.

2. It is advisable to use regulating valve and globe valve when adjusting flow and water pressure.

3, the part requiring small water flow resistance (such as the water pump suction pipe), should use the gate valve

4. Gate valves and butterfly valves should be used on the pipe sections where the water flow needs to flow in both directions. Do not use the globe valve.

5, Theinstallation with limited space should require small butterfly valves and ball valves

6. On the pipe section that is frequently opened and closed, globe valve should be adopted.

7. Multi-function valve should be used on the water outlet pipe with larger diameter.

IISelection and position of check valves

Check valves should generally be selected according to factors such as the installation location, the inlet water pressure, the sealing performance after closing, and the status of the water hammer caused by the closing:

1. When the inlet water pressure is small, it is recommended to use the swing type, ball type and shuttle type check valve.

2. When the sealing performance after closing is strict, it is advisable to use a check valve with a closing spring.

3. When it is required to weaken the water hammer, it is advisable to use a quick-closing silencer check valve or a slow-closing check valve with a damping device.

4. The disc or trim sof the check valve should be able to close by itself under the action of gravity or spring force.
